Student Learning Guides help the student know why each lesson is important, and the knowledge and skills they will learn along the way. They are filled with activities and learn vocabulary that is used throughout the lesson.
Through a template from GenerationOn, a nationally recognized organization with the mission: To inspire, equip, and mobilize youth to take action that changes the world and themselves through service, students apply academic knowledge and critical thinking skills to plan and conduct service projects. They learn to develop a sense of community while cementing positive values and gaining an understanding of diverse cultures and communities. As a result of their training and service, students learn about integrity; self-awareness; the benefits of giving; and respect for self, friends, family, and community. In addition to their service projects, students learn through the Veterans National Education Program about the service of outstanding citizens from the Revolutionary times to the present to include the challenges and successes of the Tuskegee Airmen and women in the military. As students study other cultures, they develop an awareness of how important it is to be empathetic, responsible, and service minded.
